Dermal fillers are injectable hyaluronic acid gels used to replace lost volume, smooth deep folds and refine the contours of the face. At the West Hampstead clinic most treatments take 20 to 45 minutes, results are visible straight away, and they typically last 6 to 18 months depending on the area. Every treatment is carried out by Dr Chiké Emeagi, a doctor with a surgical background, using premium fillers and a conservative, anatomy-led approach. Treatment starts from £250.

Many people come to the clinic feeling they look tired or drawn, even when they feel well on the inside. As the face ages it loses the deep fat pads, collagen and bone that once gave it shape, and the result is flattening, shadows and folds. Dermal fillers are one of the most precise ways to restore that lost structure, and when they are placed well the change is quiet: a rested, balanced version of your own face rather than an obviously treated one.

ABOUT DERMAL FILLERS

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are soft gels based on hyaluronic acid, a sugar molecule your body already makes that holds water and gives skin its plumpness. Injected beneath the skin, they restore volume, support sagging tissue and smooth folds. Because the body recognises hyaluronic acid, modern fillers integrate with your own tissue and, importantly, can be dissolved with an enzyme if that is ever needed.

It is worth being clear about what fillers do and do not do. They restore volume and structure. They are not the same as anti-wrinkle injections, which relax the muscles that cause expression lines, and they are different again from skin-quality treatments such as Profhilo. Many faces benefit from a combination, which is exactly what a proper assessment is for. At the clinic Dr Chiké uses premium fillers including Stylage, Juvéderm and Teoxane, chosen for their integration and safety profile rather than price.

TREATABLE AREAS

ABOUT DERMAL FILLER

How the treatment works

Every treatment begins with assessment, not injection. Dr Chiké looks at the face as a whole, because volume loss in one area changes how the rest reads. Treating a single fold in isolation is how faces end up looking unbalanced. Once a plan is agreed and consent taken, the skin is cleaned and a topical anaesthetic is applied for comfort.

Depending on the area, the filler is placed with a fine needle or a blunt-tipped cannula. A cannula moves under the skin with less trauma and is often used in higher-risk areas such as the tear trough and temple, where it lowers the chance of bruising and adds a margin of safety around blood vessels. The fillers themselves contain a local anaesthetic, so most people find the treatment far more comfortable than they expected. A single area usually takes 20 to 45 minutes.

You will see a difference straight away. The true result, though, settles over the following two weeks as any swelling resolves and the gel integrates with your tissue. For volume loss that is more about overall ageing than a single area, Dr Chiké may suggest pairing fillers with a collagen stimulator such as Sculptra for a longer-lasting foundation.

“In an unregulated industry, your safety depends almost entirely on who holds the needle. You are not paying for the syringe. You are paying for the hand that places it, and the judgement behind it.”

HONEST COMPARISON

How dermal fillers compare to other treatments

Fillers are often discussed alongside other injectables, but they do different jobs. The right choice, or combination, depends on whether your concern is lost volume, expression lines, skin quality or sagging.

Treatment Best For How long it lasts Reversible?
Dermal Fillers (HA)
Restoring volume, contour and structure
6 to 18 months by area
Yes, with hyaluronidase
Anti Wrinkle Injections
Softening expression lines and wrinkles
Around 3 to 4 months
Wears off naturally
Profhilo
Skin hydration, glow and mild laxity
Around 6 months
Not applicable, no volume placed
Sculptra
Gradual, broad volume from your own collagen
Up to around 2 years
No, builds collagen over time

For many people the answer is filler. For others it is a combination, and Dr Chiké will tell you honestly if another treatment would serve you better, even where that means recommending less than you came in expecting.

RESULTS

Results and what to expect

Volume is restored immediately, so you leave with a visible improvement. Over the following one to two weeks any mild swelling settles and the filler softens into a natural finish, so the final result is a touch more refined than day one. At your consultation you can see real before and after results for a clear sense of what is realistic for your face.

Longevity depends on the area and the product. As a rough guide, lip filler tends to last 6 to 12 months, cheeks 12 to 18 months, and firmer areas such as the chin and jaw can hold up to around 18 to 24 months. Mobile areas break filler down faster, and your metabolism, the amount placed and your lifestyle all play a part. Dr Chiké will give you a realistic estimate at your review rather than a blanket promise.

It is worth being straight about the limits. Fillers restore volume, they do not stop ageing, and they are not a treatment for loose skin on their own. If your main concern is sagging rather than lost volume, a thread lift or skin-tightening may suit you better, and you will be told so.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Recovery, downtime and aftercare

There is little downtime with hyaluronic acid fillers. Most people return to normal activities the same day, with at most some mild swelling, tenderness or the occasional small bruise.

Before your appointment

  • Avoid alcohol, aspirin and anti-inflammatory medication for about 24 hours beforehand, as these can increase bruising.
  • Arrive with clean skin where possible, and stay well hydrated.
  • If you have an important event, allow at least two weeks beforehand.

The first few days

  • Day of treatment: stay upright for about four hours, avoid makeup over the area and skip strenuous exercise.
  • Day one to three: avoid saunas, steam and heavy heat. Mild swelling is normal, especially with lip filler.
  • Day three to fourteen: any swelling continues to settle and the filler integrates. Most people feel fully back to normal within a week.

You will leave with clear written aftercare guidance and a direct route back to the clinic if you have any concerns.

IS THIS FOR ME?

Am I a suitable candidate?

Dermal fillers suit most healthy adults who have noticed volume loss, deepening folds, or features they would like brought into better balance. A consultation is essential, because suitability depends on your health, your anatomy and your expectations as much as the area itself.

Treatment is usually advised against, or postponed, if you have an active skin infection in the area, certain autoimmune or connective tissue conditions, a history of serious reactions to filler, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Honest expectations matter as much as anything medical, and these are talked through together before anything begins.

PRICING

What dermal fillers cost

Dermal fillers at the West Hampstead clinic start from £250, with the exact cost depending on the area, the product and how much volume is needed. You are given a clear, itemised price before anything begins, and you can see the full price list online. Premium fillers cost more than budget brands, and that difference reflects how the gel integrates and behaves over time. Price is never used as a reason to treat, and Dr Chiké would rather under-treat and review than place volume you do not need.

DOCTOR LED TREATMENT

Why Doctor Led Matters

Dermal fillers are CE-marked medical devices, not prescription-only medicines. Under UK law as it stands, that means there is no legal requirement for the person injecting them to hold any medical qualification at all. The government has committed to closing that gap through a licensing scheme for non-surgical cosmetic procedures, but it is not yet in force. We think that is precisely why who treats you matters. At Hampstead Aesthetics every treatment is assessed, planned and carried out by Dr Chike himself — there is no delegation to a non-medical injector.

The reason this matters is anatomical. The most serious risk of any filler treatment is vascular occlusion, where filler obstructs a blood vessel — rare, but a genuine emergency that depends on being recognised and treated immediately. Dr Chike’s surgical and general-practice background means a working knowledge of the arteries, nerves and tissue planes beneath the skin; a blunt-tipped cannula is used in higher-risk areas such as the tear trough and temple; and reversal agents are kept on site as routine rather than ordered in.

YOUR SAFETY

Emergency Safety Protocols

  • Hyaluronidase on site — reversal agent for vascular occlusion, and for dissolving unwanted or poorly placed hyaluronic acid filler; stocked as routine
  • Anaphylaxis kit on site — full adrenaline protocol in the event of an allergic reaction
  • ACE-certified practitioner — Dr Chike holds emergency complication management certification
  • 999 escalation protocol — written procedures in place for emergency hospital transfer

We use only premium, CE-marked fillers sourced from authorised UK distributors, so every product is fully traceable. We carry full professional indemnity insurance covering all treatments performed at this clinic.

CONSENT

Consent, Privacy & Your Rights

Before any treatment you will receive a full written consultation covering your medical history, contraindications, realistic outcomes, and all associated risks. Treatment will not proceed without your informed, documented consent.

If you have a concern about your treatment, you are entitled to raise it directly with Dr Chike and, if it remains unresolved, to escalate to the General Medical Council.

Your consultation, treatment, and 2-week review are all conducted by the same doctor. There are no hand-offs.

FAQ's

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do dermal fillers cost in London?

At the West Hampstead clinic dermal fillers start from £250, and most single areas fall within a clear range you are quoted before treatment. Across London, premium hyaluronic acid fillers usually cost more per syringe than budget brands, which reflects the quality of the gel and how it behaves over time. The final cost depends on the area, the product and how much volume is needed, and you receive an itemised price at your consultation.

It depends on the area. As a rough guide, lip filler lasts around 6 to 12 months, cheeks 12 to 18 months, and firmer areas such as the chin and jaw can hold up to 18 to 24 months. Mobile areas of the face break filler down faster. Your metabolism, the amount placed and your lifestyle all affect longevity, and Dr Chiké will give you a personal estimate at your review.

Most people find them far more comfortable than they expected. A topical numbing cream is applied first, and the fillers themselves contain a local anaesthetic, so the area is numbed as the treatment progresses. Where suitable, a blunt cannula is used rather than a needle, which tends to be gentler. Most patients describe a sensation of pressure rather than pain.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are safe in experienced medical hands, though no injectable is risk-free. The most serious risk is vascular occlusion, where filler affects a blood vessel, which is why anatomy knowledge and technique matter so much. At the clinic risk is reduced through careful assessment, cannula technique where appropriate, premium products and reversal agents kept on site. Fillers should only be carried out by a trained medical injector after a full consultation.

Yes, this is one of the advantages of hyaluronic acid fillers. An enzyme called hyaluronidase can be injected to break the filler down, usually within a day or two. This is used to correct over-filled or poorly placed work, and it is also part of how complications are managed. The clinic keeps reversal agents on site as routine. Collagen-stimulating treatments such as Sculptra cannot be dissolved in the same way.

Not when they are placed conservatively and with a plan. The overfilled look usually comes from too much product, or from chasing individual lines rather than restoring overall structure. Dr Chiké treats the face as a whole and builds gradually, often over more than one session, so the result reads as a rested version of you rather than an obviously treated one.

They solve different problems. Dermal fillers replace lost volume and define contours, working on the structure of the face. Anti-wrinkle injections relax the muscles that create expression lines such as frown lines and crow’s feet. Many people benefit from a combination, and which you need, or whether you need both, is what the consultation works out.

Most people need less than they imagine. A single area often starts with one syringe, with the option to add at a review. Building gradually is safer and looks more natural than placing a large volume in one visit. The exact amount depends on the area, how much volume has been lost and your facial structure, all of which are assessed at your consultation.

Very little for most areas. You can usually return to normal activities the same day. Mild swelling, tenderness or the occasional small bruise can occur and settle within a few days, with lip filler tending to swell the most early on. Avoid exercise, heat and alcohol for a day or two, and allow two weeks before an important event.

The clinic uses premium CE-marked fillers including Stylage, Juvéderm and Teoxane. These are chosen for how smoothly they integrate and their established safety record, rather than for cost. Dr Chiké is a Key Opinion Leader for Stylage and trains other practitioners, so the choice of product for each area is deliberate rather than one-size-fits-all.

Yes, and a growing number do, most often for jawline and chin definition, under-eye hollows and tired-looking features. The approach is tailored to a masculine framework, which usually means stronger, more angular support and careful, restrained dosing. The aim is the same as for any patient: balance and a natural result rather than an obviously treated one.

Nothing harmful. Hyaluronic acid filler breaks down gradually, so if you choose not to repeat treatment the area slowly returns to how it looked before. You do not end up looking worse than your starting point; the original volume loss simply returns over time as the gel resolves.

No. Fillers are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, not because of known harm but because they have not been studied in these groups, so the cautious medical position is to wait. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, Dr Chiké will suggest postponing treatment and can talk through timing at your consultation.

This is one of the more common reasons people come to the clinic. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase, either to remove it completely or to correct over-filled or poorly placed work, and the area can then be reassessed and, if appropriate, treated afresh. Dr Chiké will examine what is there and give you an honest plan, which sometimes means dissolving and starting again.

Allow at least two weeks before an important occasion. Results are visible immediately, but giving the area a couple of weeks lets any swelling or bruising settle and the filler integrate, so you look your best on the day rather than freshly treated. Lip filler in particular benefits from this margin, as it tends to swell most in the first few days.

Arrange your consultation

If you have started to look more tired or drawn than you feel, a consultation is the right place to begin. Dr Chiké will assess your face with you, talk honestly about whether fillers are the right answer or whether something else would serve you better, and agree a plan with no pressure. If you have been searching for dermal fillers near me, the West Hampstead clinic welcomes patients from across North London. You can arrange a consultation online or call the clinic on 0203 196 7222.
