What is HIFU?
HIFU stands for high-intensity focused ultrasound. It uses focused ultrasound energy to heat targeted points deep in the skin, triggering the body to produce new collagen and elastin and to tighten the tissue. What makes it powerful is the depth it reaches: the SMAS layer (the supportive muscle and connective tissue layer), which is the same layer a surgeon tightens during a facelift. By acting at that depth, HIFU can genuinely lift, rather than only smoothing the surface.
The clinic uses a medical-grade 5D HIFU system with a SMAS focus, which delivers energy at a controlled depth of around 4.5mm to the support layer. This is different from low-power salon or home devices, which mostly treat the surface and cannot lift heavy tissue such as jowls. It is CE-marked and used to a medical protocol designed by Dr Chiké.

How the treatment works
Every treatment starts with assessment. Dr Chike examines your skin laxity along the jawline, neck and brow, and maps the treatment zones and depths for your anatomy. After the skin is cleansed and marked, the handpiece delivers focused ultrasound pulses to the SMAS layer at a controlled depth of around 4.5mm. You feel brief warmth or tingling with each pulse. Results and what to expect
You may notice an immediate firming, a slightly more lifted look, straight after treatment, but the real result develops gradually. Over the following 3 to 6 months your body lays down new collagen, firming and lifting the skin progressively. The most noticeable improvement is usually seen at around three months and continues to refine.
Results typically last 12 months or more from a single well-dosed session, after which a maintenance treatment keeps the skin firm. How long it lasts depends on your skin, age and lifestyle. AFTERCARE
Recovery, downtime and aftercare
HIFU is often called a lunchtime facelift because there is no real downtime. You may be slightly flushed or pink for an hour or so, and occasionally a little tender or mildly swollen, but there is no peeling, bleeding or dressings. You can apply makeup and return to work the same day.
- Use the SPF provided and protect the skin from strong sun in the days afterwards.
- Keep skincare gentle for a few days and stay well hydrated.
- Mild tenderness to touch for a few days is normal and settles on its own.
