An IPL facial, also called photorejuvenation, uses intense pulsed light to improve sun damage, brown pigmentation, redness and small visible vessels, evening out the skin and restoring a clearer, brighter complexion. It works over a short course and has little downtime. IPL is best suited to lighter skin tones and is not suitable for darker skin, which a patch test and assessment confirm. At the West Hampstead clinic it is from £120 per session.

An IPL facial is one of the most effective ways to even out a complexion marked by sun damage, brown spots and redness. It uses light to target colour in the skin, so it works best on lighter skin tones with darker marks, and it is not suitable for darker skin because of the risk of burns and pigment change. That is exactly why a proper assessment and patch test come first.

ABOUT IPL

What is an IPL facial?

IPL stands for intense pulsed light. Unlike a laser, which uses a single wavelength, IPL delivers a broad spectrum of light that is absorbed by colour in the skin, the brown of pigmentation and the red of blood vessels. The light converts to heat and breaks down these targets, which the body then clears, leaving a more even, clearer complexion. It is often called photorejuvenation or a photofacial.

It is particularly good for the diffuse sun damage, freckled pigmentation and background redness that other treatments do not address as well. It complements treatments such as peels and a good skincare routine.

Why Choose the Radiance IPL Glow Facial?

Experience the ultimate skin rejuvenation with the IPL Skin Glow Facial at Hampstead Aesthetics. This advanced treatment combines Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and Radio Frequency (RF) technologies to target multiple skin concerns, leaving you with a smooth, radiant complexion.

The non-invasive procedure is quick, effective, and suitable for all skin types, offering visible improvements with minimal downtime.

FAQs About IPL Facial

How does an IPL Facial work?

IPL works by emitting controlled pulses of light that penetrate the skin’s surface. This light targets specific skin issues like sunspots, acne scars, and broken capillaries, breaking them down so the body can naturally eliminate them. The treatment also stimulates collagen production, improving overall skin tone and texture.

Is IPL Facial safe?

Yes, IPL facial treatments are safe when performed by trained professionals. At Hampstead Aesthetics, we use FDA-approved equipment and ensure the treatment is customised to suit your individual skin type and concerns, minimising any risks.

How many IPL sessions will I need?

The number of sessions varies depending on the condition being treated. Typically, 3 to 6 sessions spaced about 3-4 weeks apart are recommended for optimal results. Your practitioner will assess your skin and provide a personalised treatment plan during your consultation.

Is there any downtime after an IPL Facial?

There is minimal downtime after an IPL facial. Some clients may experience mild redness or swelling, which typically resolves within a few hours to a day. You can resume your normal activities immediately after the treatment.

How soon will I see results from an IPL Facial?

You may notice immediate improvement in skin texture and tone after your first session. However, the full benefits, such as reduced pigmentation and more even skin tone, become visible after 3 to 4 sessions. Collagen production will continue to improve over the following weeks.

Does IPL treatment hurt?

Most clients experience a mild warming or tingling sensation during the treatment, which is generally well tolerated. The procedure is non-invasive, and any discomfort is temporary and minimal. Numbing cream is not typically necessary.

Can IPL be used on all skin types

IPL is most effective for individuals with fair to medium skin tones. It can be less effective or potentially cause adverse effects on darker skin tones due to the way light is absorbed. Our team will assess your skin type and determine if IPL is suitable for you during your consultation.

How long do the results of an IPL Facial last?

The results of an IPL facial can last anywhere from 6 months to a year, depending on your skin type, lifestyle, and how well you care for your skin post-treatment. To maintain results, we recommend occasional maintenance treatments.

Can IPL treat acne?

Yes, IPL can be used to treat acne by targeting the bacteria that cause it, as well as reducing redness and inflammation associated with acne. It can also improve the appearance of acne scars over time.

What should I do after an IPL Facial?

After your treatment, it’s important to protect your skin from direct sun exposure and apply a high-SPF sunscreen. Avoid hot showers, strenuous exercise, or exfoliating products for 24 to 48 hours post-treatment. Your practitioner will provide specific aftercare instructions based on your skin’s needs.
